The city of Asotin, Washington, has temporarily closed two waste disposal sites used by RVers and rafters due to a record surge in usage. The influx overwhelmed the local wastewater treatment plant, prompting officials to schedule a public hearing on August 24 to decide whether to continue the service. The sites include a free RV dump and a BLM-owned SCAT machine.
Fire crews extinguished a camper fire in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Thursday afternoon. The fire occurred in the 4800 block of Northwest 178th Terrace. Firefighters found the camper fully engulfed in flames upon arrival. Residents of the home used garden hoses to contain the fire before crews arrived. No injuries were reported. The possible cause is an air fryer inside the camper. The Red Cross was called to assist the family with temporary housing.
A camper in Banff National Park, Canada, has been charged with two offences under the National Parks General Regulations and Camping Regulations after leaving food outside a tent in a bag marketed as bear-resistant. The incident occurred on August 4 at Rampart Creek Campground, where a bear took the food and later contacted the tent. A bear warning is in effect for the area, and multiple black bears have been sighted. Elsewhere in Banff, campgrounds near Lake Minnewanka were evacuated due to bears repeatedly ripping tents.
An Escanaba resident sustained minor injuries and a pet died in an early morning fire on Wednesday. The Escanaba Public Safety Department responded to a structure fire on 14th Avenue South at 4:28 a.m., where a camper and a vehicle were fully engulfed. Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, preventing spread to nearby homes. The male resident was treated and released by Rampart EMS.
LCI Industries, a supplier of engineered components for recreation and transportation markets, reported second quarter 2026 results. Net sales fell 13% to $969 million, adjusted net sales declined 4% to $1,057 million, and operating margin expanded 200 basis points to 9.9%. Net income rose 16% to $67 million, with diluted EPS up 20% to $2.75. The company also announced an all-stock merger with Patrick Industries Inc.
Champion Homes reported financial results for its first quarter ended June 27. Net sales rose 1.3% to $710.2 million compared to the prior-year period. U.S. home sales increased 1.8% to 7,089 units, with average selling price up 0.6% to $95,600. Net income was $49.2 million, and adjusted EBITDA was $73.6 million. The company repurchased $50 million of stock and refreshed its buyback authorization to $150 million.

Pop-up campers, introduced in 1954 with the Hille Ranger, gained popularity through Starcraft in 1963. They are cheaper than traditional travel trailers and RVs, but offer less comfort and insulation. Used models start at under $500, while new ones cost from $2,299 excluding shipping and floor. Advantages include maneuverability, lower fuel consumption, and easier repairs; disadvantages include lack of bathroom facilities, longer setup times, and mold risk.
Power Queen has introduced the 12V 150Ah Group 27 Deep Cycle LiFePO4 Battery. The battery uses a standard BCI Group 27 form factor (approximately 308 × 170 × 211 mm) and delivers 150Ah capacity and 1,920Wh of energy. Compared with a typical 100Ah lead-acid battery, which offers about 50Ah of usable capacity, the new model provides roughly three times the usable energy without requiring additional installation space. It features Bluetooth 5.0 for real-time monitoring of state of charge, voltage, current, and temperature, along with a 150A battery management system that protects against high temperature, short circuit, overvoltage, overcurrent, undervoltage, and low-temperature conditions. Charging stops below 32°F and resumes at approximately 41°F; discharging stops below -4°F. The battery is designed for RVs, camper vans, and selected marine applications, such as powering trolling motors and fish finders.
Hunter Megowen, creator of The RV Hunter YouTube channel with over 90,000 subscribers, attended his first NASCAR race weekend and camped in the infield at Talladega Superspeedway. Despite the area's reputation for wild parties, he found the daytime atmosphere friendly and praised the drivers' skill. Megowen said he would return to the campground.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the updated Hilux in India, showcasing the Basecamp camper conversion by Bengaluru-based Camper Dynamics. The modular setup turns the pickup into a compact home on wheels, featuring a bed, kitchen, shower, work area, and storage. It includes a solar panel, LED lighting, ventilation, an 80-litre water tank, and other equipment. The camper is priced at Rs 15.8 lakh, while the Hilux is available in three automatic variants starting at Rs 31.99 lakh.
Laveo by Dry Flush has introduced the Blackwater Conversion Kit, an adapter system that lets RV and camper van owners replace their conventional toilet with a waterless Laveo unit. The kit includes floor-mounting plates, a template, and a contoured spacer for installation over a standard floor flange. The Laveo uses patented technology to seal waste in self-contained bags, eliminating the need for water, chemicals, or a holding tank. Weighing 29 pounds with battery, the unit operates without external venting, and each cartridge lasts about 15 flushes.

Chelly and Kevin Clayton, owners of several Townsend, Tennessee businesses, including Little Arrow Outdoor Resort, Little Arrow Base Camp RV Park, River Rat Tubing & Rafting and Burger Master, have entered into an agreement with Streamside RV Resorts & Campgrounds. Under the agreement, the Claytons will remain significant investors, while longtime operators Carmen Simpher and Jay Moore will lead the businesses. Streamside, founded in 2023 and operating dozens of properties across 17 states, said it is committed to maintaining the legacy of the properties and their positive community impact.
Patrick Industries posted a 34% rise in Q2 net income despite lower RV sales, with growth in Marine, Powersports and Housing segments. The company also announced a merger agreement with LCI Industries.
Daniel Highway 40 Storage has opened a climate-controlled boat and RV storage facility in Heber City, Utah, located along Highway 40. The facility protects vehicles from harsh winter temperatures, snow, summer heat, and UV exposure. Residents from Heber City, Midway, Charleston, and Daniel have welcomed the new option, which eliminates the need to travel outside the valley for premium storage.
The York Public Library in Maine saw its electric bill rise by $300–500 compared to last summer due to overnight campers using its outlets. Library Director Michelle Sampson found travelers charging devices on the porch and using Wi-Fi and water. The iOverlander app listed the library as an informal campsite without authorization. The library has locked its outlets, ordered 'No Camping' signs, and the town requested removal from the app.
