Plans for an RV park in Mount Hope’s Bailey’s Bottom area are on hold after city officials received a July 7 letter from the U.S. Department of Agriculture stating the project would likely violate restrictions on flood-buyout properties. The land is held under perpetual easements meant to restore floodplains, prohibiting buildings, vegetation alteration, and filling. A large crowd attended the July 14 city council meeting amid resident concerns over safety and transparency.
GoRVing.com published a three-day RV route through three states: Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. Total driving time is under four hours. The route includes stops in Coalville (Utah), Bear Lake (Idaho) and Alpine (Wyoming). Activities include whitewater rafting on the Snake River, visiting Grand Teton National Park and a treetop ropes course at Echo Island RV Resort.
Around noon Tuesday in Dunkirk, New York, an RV struck the Willow Road bridge, which has a clearance of just over 10 feet. The top of the vehicle became wedged about eight feet beyond the entrance. This is the latest in a series of incidents at the bridge, exacerbated by a detour from the Canadaway Creek Bridge replacement on Route 5, which began in May and is expected to last until Labor Day.
Since June 2025, Zion National Park has enforced strict size and weight limits on the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway. Vehicles exceeding 35 feet 9 inches in length, 7 feet 10 inches in width, 11 feet 4 inches in height, or 50,000 pounds are banned from the route. Previously, oversized vehicles could pass through the tunnel with a paid permit, but that option has been eliminated. The detour adds 30 to 90 minutes for travel between Bryce Canyon and Zion.

In Colorado Springs, Colorado, one person was seriously injured after a motorcycle collided with an RV towing a trailer. Police responded to the 2200 block of East Platte Avenue just after 3 p.m. Investigators believe the motorcycle was traveling east on Platte when the RV slowed to turn right into a parking lot; the rider could not stop in time and struck the back of the trailer, causing ejection. Bystanders provided aid until paramedics arrived, and the rider was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed the rider was wearing a helmet and that drugs, alcohol, and speed are not suspected factors.
A bison attacked 65-year-old Carl Aizom-McDaniel at Bridge Bay Campground in Yellowstone National Park, throwing him about 8 feet. The victim suffered multiple fractures.
A vehicle towing a caravan overturned on Hellisheiði pass in Iceland, causing a temporary westbound closure. Traffic has since reopened but remains slow. Police confirmed no injuries. Strong winds may have contributed to the incident.

After floodwaters receded in Reynolds County, Missouri, the damage included washed-out bridges and RVs weighing thousands of pounds pushed across the Black River. Curtis Meredith, manager of Black River RV Park in Lesterville, said water reached 12 feet deep, and guests scrambled to hook up their campers. The Missouri Governor's office called it a 1-in-1,000-year event. All guests were rescued, but the campground is a total loss.
Plumas County, California, officials are surveying parcels where people live in RVs after the 2021 Dixie Fire destroyed 362 homes. An emergency ordinance allowing long-term RV occupancy expired June 30, making it illegal again under county zoning and state health codes. As of July 7, 36 households were identified living in RVs. Officials say enforcement will be 'soft' and are helping residents find alternative housing.
The U.S. Forest Service reminded that dispersed camping is permitted free of charge across 154 national forests and 20 national grasslands. Camping outside designated sites offers isolation from crowds but requires adherence to guidelines: plan ahead, dispose of waste properly, camp on durable surfaces, minimize campfire impacts, respect wildlife and others, and leave no trace.

Bill Hawley, former owner of Hawleywood RV Ranch in Dodge City, Kansas, died July 1, eleven days before his 82nd birthday. He served as an RVDA Board Director and Kansas state delegate. In 2010, Hawley received the RVDA Chairman’s Service Award for exempting RVs from Consumer Finance Protection Bureau regulations. He also participated in the Parts Task Force for the RV industry’s Committee on Excellence. Hawley attended the RVIA show in Louisville for 41 consecutive years. His funeral is scheduled for July 10.
Jeremy Medina, 39, was arrested by the Onslow County Sheriff's Office on multiple felony drug charges, including possession of methamphetamine and manufacturing fentanyl. Investigators allege he used a camper behind a home on Plow Point Lane to keep, package and sell illegal drugs. Deputies seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Medina is held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.
