In Brief

EU Directive 2025/2205 will let category B licence holders drive motorhomes up to 4250 kg, or up to 5000 kg with a trailer, but only after additional training or an exam. In Croatia, the rules are not yet in force.

New rules for motorhomes

EU Directive (EU) 2025/2205 allows category B licence holders to drive motorhomes with a maximum mass of up to 4250 kg. With a trailer, the permitted mass can reach 5000 kg. Currently, category B is limited to 3500 kg.

Conditions

Driving heavier motorhomes will require at least seven hours of additional training or passing a special exam. After meeting the requirements, code 96.02 will be added to the licence. The decision remains with member states.

Not yet in Croatia

In Croatia, the new rules are not yet in force: the country must amend national legislation. Until then, the 3500 kg limit remains.
