The city of Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, has decided to close the 43-pitch Hwannam Auto Camping Site, opened in March 2018 next to the Hwaseong Sports Complex, and build a practice field for Hwaseong FC on the site. Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun cited the need to provide the football club with an alternative training base, as the city is scheduled to host the National Sports Festival in 2027, the National Youth Sports Festival in 2028 and the National Sports for All Festival in 2029. The decision has drawn criticism: residents have filed complaints on the city's civic communication portal, saying they were notified one month before closure without prior public hearings; the camping site was named an exemplary eco-friendly campground in 2025 in a contest organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. The city says it will expedite the creation of a replacement camping site in the Hwannam area.
