Campsite, RV park, camping park, holiday park, campground, touring park, camping site
A caravan park (also campsite or campground) is a managed site with marked pitches for motorhomes, campervans and caravans, equipped with shared facilities such as electrical hookups, water, toilets, showers and laundry.
European campsites are rated 1–5 stars (ADAC, ECOCAMPING) ranging from basic stopovers (€5–15/night) to five-star holiday resorts with pools (€80+). Booking platforms include ACSI, Pitchup and Camping Key Europe.
FAQ
What is the difference between a campsite and an aire or Stellplatz?
A campsite (caravan park) is a commercial site with staffed reception, marked pitches and full facilities (showers, laundry, hookups). An aire (France) or Stellplatz (Germany/Austria) is a simpler, often municipal parking area for motorhomes with basic services (water, waste) but no showers or reception. Aires and Stellplätze are usually €0–10/night vs. €20–80/night at a campsite.
How do I find and book a campsite for a motorhome?
Platforms ACSI (acsi.eu), Pitchup.com and Campingkey Europe list and allow direct bookings. Park4Night and Campercontact show both official campsites and informal spots with reviews. In peak summer (July–August) popular coastal and mountain sites fill weeks ahead — book early or arrive before noon.
