On 2 June 2026, police in Sant Josep (Ibiza) dismantled an illegal settlement of twelve caravans and one tent that had sprung up in the protected Ses Salines Natural Park. According to sources, some owners had moved there after being evicted from another location.
Authorities found kitchens, fire remains, gas cylinders, batteries, and generators, posing a safety and environmental hazard. About half a tonne of rubbish was left behind after the eviction.
Ten fines were issued for overnight stays in rural areas with the aggravating factor of being in a protected zone. Under Law 5/2024, fines range from €10,000 to €30,000. Three caravans were seized, and a fourth is to be impounded. The municipality has launched a special summer campaign to detect and prevent caravan parking outside campsites.
