An illegal caravan settlement in the Sa Joveria area of Ibiza has been vacated. About twenty caravans parked on public land began leaving voluntarily after local police warned owners of possible sanctions for long-term parking and overnight stays in public spaces.
According to Ibiza town hall, most owners claimed they were paying rent (some sources say 400–500 euros per month) but decided to leave after being warned of legal consequences, in order to avoid fines. All caravans are expected to be removed within hours, after which municipal services will start removing abandoned vehicles and rubbish.
The settlement was not dismantled during the operation on 21 April because it was on land considered public territory (according to some sources, a public road) and not included in the court order. Police also reminded of the ban on camping and overnight stays in public places, as well as the law restricting caravan parking on Ibiza from 1 June to 30 September.
