Romanian Highway Code Changes: What Vehicles Can Be Driven with a Category B License

New EU regulations allow Romanian drivers with a standard category B license to operate heavier vehicles under specific conditions. The permissible weight limit is extended from 3.5 to 4.25 tonnes, but only for electric or hybrid vehicles, and drivers must have held the license for at least two years. To obtain the extended license, drivers must complete a practical course without a new exam, and a digital driver's license will be introduced alongside the physical version.

Camping rules in Romania: where to pitch a tent or park a caravan

Romania enforces strict camping regulations, with fines up to 6000 lei for violations. In mountain protected areas, camping is allowed only in designated spots; in the Danube Delta, a permit is required; and on beaches, tent installation is banned. For caravans, parking does not permit setting up camp—extending an awning or outdoor furniture is prohibited. Tourists should check local rules in advance and avoid private land without owner consent.

Motorhome renter absconds with vehicle in Romania

Magnifico Caravans, a company based in Bucharest, rented a motorhome to a man for a trip to southern Romania, including the coast and the Danube Delta. After the rental period ended on June 1, 2026, the renter stopped communicating and the GPS tracker was disabled. It was later discovered he had sublet the vehicle to others. The company reported the theft to police and posted on social media.

EU changes category B driving license rules: new requirements for electric cars, motorhomes, and trailers

European authorities are preparing changes to category B driving licenses that will affect drivers of electric cars, motorhomes, and those towing trailers. The new directive proposes increasing the weight limit for certain vehicles that can be driven with a category B license. Motorhome drivers may be required to pass an additional exam or undergo special training. In Romania, an extended category B (code 96) already exists, allowing driving of combinations with a maximum authorized mass of up to 4250 kg after 7 hours of practical training.
