Elddis, part of Erwin Hymer Group, has confirmed 217 redundancies after ceasing production at its Consett plant in County Durham. The move follows declining caravan registrations and rising demand for campervans and motorhomes in the UK. The company will retain a presence at Delves Lane, including the Elddis Experience Centre, and will design new campervan and motorhome ranges using Erwin Hymer Group's production network.
A selection of nine real caravan models whose names raise eyebrows. Among them: Compass Rallye 636, reminiscent of a Peugeot hot hatch but actually a six-berth giant; Swift Elegance Grande 860, whose 'elegance' contrasts with the need to empty the toilet; Freedom Jetstream Twin Sport, a name more fitting for an American hot rod than a Polish trailer; Adria Alpina Mississippi, whose stripes suggest a BMW Alpina copyright infringement; Coachman VIP 675, where VIP status poorly matches camping; Elddis Crusader Hurricane, named after a storm you wouldn't want to be in; Buccaneer Bermuda, named after a destination you wouldn't take such a caravan to; Swift Basecamp 6, marketed for adventurers but unsuited for off-road; and Campmaster King, whose 'royal' name belies its tiny size.

Dolphin Motorhomes is hosting its 2026 Summer Spectacular event at Exbury Club from June 26 to 28. An Elddis caravan designed for year-round use has been presented. The 6.1-meter-long model has a curb weight of 1200 kg and is equipped with an ALDE heating and water heating system that operates on gas or electricity. The standard equipment also includes an automatic Mover maneuvering drive with a remote control.
The Elddis Auto-SEEK CV20 motorhome for the 2026 model year has entered the public domain. The vehicle is built on a Fiat chassis and features updates to its exterior design and interior layout.
Elddis will cease caravan production at its Consett plant in the UK after over 50 years. The focus shifts to campervans and motorhomes, to be manufactured at Erwin Hymer Group facilities in Germany and Poland. The move is part of a strategic shift towards motorised leisure vehicles amid declining caravan registrations.
