US company Lightship, founded in 2021, has unveiled the AE.1 Atmos caravan with a 77 kWh battery, electric motors on one of its two axles and regenerative braking. The TrekDrive system supports the towing vehicle and, according to the manufacturer, provides around 480 km of electric assistance in normal driving. The battery also powers an induction hob, a fridge with freezer compartment, a microwave and a fan oven, while 1.8 kW of roof-mounted solar panels can recharge it. A full charge takes about 7.5 hours with a standard charger or about an hour with a fast charger, after which the caravan can supply power to other vehicles or a house. The AE.1 Atmos starts at around €139,500, with a more expensive version from about €160,000. The caravan is sold in the US; use in the Netherlands would require RDW approval and often a BE driving licence.
