A retrospective planning application has been submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority for a caravan site at Hilltop Farm in St John's in the Vale, near Keswick. Groundworks were completed on May 15, with water supply points installed, but the site has not yet opened. The plans seek to retain gravel hardstandings and allow up to five touring caravans, motorhomes or campervans, plus an additional hardstanding for daytime use, a separate turning area and five electric hook-up points yet to be installed. The applicant states the work was done in good faith after the Caravan and Motorhome Club approved a five-pitch Certificated Location in October 2020, but acknowledges that club approval did not replace planning permission. Proposed mitigation includes around 30 native trees, new hedges and wildflower planting, with chemical toilet waste and grey water to be collected in a sealed underground tank. Year-round operation is sought, restricted to short-term holiday stays.
