Electric Hook-Up

Electrical United Kingdom Europe

EHU, electrical connection, campsite power, landline, hookup, blue commando

Electric hook-up (EHU) is the cable and connection system that links a motorhome or caravan to a campsite's mains electricity supply, providing 230V power for appliances and battery charging.

UK campsites typically provide 10A or 16A supplies via a blue CEE connector. Always use a correctly rated outdoor extension cable with RCD protection. Most campsite hook-up points include a built-in RCD.

FAQ

How long a cable do I need for a campsite hook-up?

A 25 m cable covers most pitches. For large or awkward pitches, 30 m. Use a proper outdoor-rated 2.5 mm² CEE cable (IP44 minimum) — never join two household extension leads, which are not rated for continuous outdoor use in damp conditions.

What can a 6A / 10A / 16A hook-up run?

6A (1,380 W): LED lights, phone/laptop chargers, water pump, small fan. 10A (2,300 W): adds a small 1,200 W travel kettle or low-setting hair dryer. 16A (3,680 W): can run a toaster and kettle simultaneously. Never exceed the supply limit — the campsite breaker will trip and may disconnect your neighbours too.
