Lake District: Church Stile Holiday Park
Church Stile Holiday Park in Nether Wasdale has applied for year-round use of caravans and accommodation. Currently, use is permitted from 1 March to 4 January. The application cites growing demand for winter holidays, including February half-term. The park already has permission for 67 static caravans, 125 tent pitches, three camping pods and two shepherd's huts, but the full number of approved units has not yet been reached.
Owners have also applied to redesignate 25 acres of adjacent farmland as recreational open space. The site involves no new construction, aiming instead to enhance recreation, landscaping and bird feeders. Applicants say the redesignation does not threaten World Heritage status. The decision is pending with the Lake District National Park Authority. The application was registered on 14 April 2026 and covers 1.2% of the farm's land. Owners Julius and Kirsten Manduell cite unstable finances due to subsidy cuts and rewilding requirements.
Devizes: Motorhome parking by the canal
Devizes Town Council (Wiltshire) continues work on a motorhome parking facility beside the Kennet and Avon Canal. In August 2024, Councillor Ian Hopkins proposed creating Aires-style spaces at The Wharf car park. As part of consultations on county parking rules, the council has submitted representations to Wiltshire Council. The project, aimed at boosting tourism, remains on the agenda. Two sites are considered: The Wharf Car Park and Station Road Car Park. A feasibility study was commissioned from The Campaign for Real Aires in the UK.
