ADAC Hessen-Thüringen has outlined five steps for putting a motorhome into winter storage. The vehicle should be washed outside, seals cleaned and treated, the interior cleaned and perishable food removed, with paint damage repaired immediately. Plastic fuel tanks should be left as empty as possible, while steel tanks should be kept full to prevent rust from condensation. Fresh water, waste water and toilet cassettes must be drained, cleaned and ventilated, and gas cylinders disconnected and stored with protective caps. The leisure battery should be fully charged and recharged every four to eight weeks, or removed and stored frost-free, while the motorhome is parked level, dry and sheltered, ideally raised on blocks or with tyre pressure about 0.5 bar above the normal operating pressure.
