ACV Automobil-Club Verkehr has published recommendations for preparing caravans and motorhomes for winter storage. Before the first frost, the water system must be drained, including fresh and waste tanks, lines, boiler, siphons and toilet flush tank, to prevent damage to pipes and fittings. The vehicle should be stored on firm, dry ground, with exterior surfaces cleaned, ventilation openings left clear, batteries checked and recharged as needed, and gas cylinder valves closed and stored upright in a well-ventilated place above ground level. Tyre pressure may be increased by about 0.5 bar according to manufacturer specifications, without exceeding the maximum permitted pressure. Seasonal licence plates prohibit use and parking on public roads and spaces outside the registered period; main inspection and gas inspection deadlines should be planned in advance.
