Authorities in Malaga have begun evicting a large caravan camp near Sacaba beach. According to sources, on July 8 police launched an operation against about 60 motorhomes remaining after the deadline set by the city council. Two operational support groups and four patrol cars are involved. Most of the nearly 200 vehicles left voluntarily, but the rest triggered forced measures.
The camp's residents, estimated at 100 to 140 families, say they are working people who cannot afford to rent due to high prices. According to Idealista, the average sale price of housing in Malaga rose from 2,100 euros per square meter in 2021 to 3,784 euros, while rents nearly doubled to 16.5 euros per square meter. Residents and activists demand negotiations, claiming the city has offered no alternatives. Nearby residents have complained about dumping of grey and black water on the sand, noise, fires, and drug dealing.
