Living in a motorhome in Spain: rules and advice

Spain has no national law explicitly banning permanent residence in a motorhome, but traffic, regional and especially municipal rules regulate movement, parking, occasional overnight stays and permanent residence differently. Parking is allowed on the same terms as for any other vehicle, and occasional overnight stays are usually tolerated in many public car parks unless local bylaws expressly prohibit them. Most fines relate not to sleeping in a motorhome but to behaviour classed as wild camping, such as putting out furniture or awnings or discharging waste water outside designated points. Legally a motorhome remains a vehicle rather than a dwelling, so it cannot be registered as an address in deeds or the cadastre, and registering residence in one is generally not possible.
