A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) will restrict wild camping, fires and barbecues at nine locations on the North Yorkshire coast, including parts of Scarborough and Whitby. The measure follows persistent littering, anti-social behaviour and environmental damage reported by residents. Offenders may receive a fixed penalty notice of up to £100 or a court fine of up to £1,000. Clean-up costs from unauthorised camping between May and October 2024 exceeded £30,000, according to North Yorkshire Council.
