Wild camping on Yorkshire coast could lead to £1,000 fine

In June 2022, Jon and Emilie James sold their home for £132,000 and purchased a former miners' campsite in Llanelli, South Wales, abandoned since 1989. Over three years, they transformed the littered plot into an off-grid glamping site with a tiny house and sauna, spending £90,000 on the purchase and leaving £500 in their account. Somerset Council's planning committee unanimously voted to allow the expansion of the Cutters Combe touring caravan site between Bridgwater and the Quantock Hills. Guy Williams, a former surveyor from Bristol, founded The Fat Pony Workshop and converted a 2002 Ford Iveco Cargo truck into a modular camper with a jacuzzi. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority has launched a 10-year review of its camping management byelaws, which have been in place since 2015.
