UK farm holidays boom as more people seek 'back to basics'

Residents and holidaymakers have been allowed back into a caravan park near Dunwich Heath after a wildfire that spread across about 112 hectares. Fire crews remain on scene tackling hotspots, while police escort people to collect personal belongings. The Dunwich Classic Car Mini Rally will go ahead on August 9, and an information centre at Westleton Village Hall will be open from 9am to 4pm.

In Paddock Wood, Kent, an out-of-control bonfire spread to a nearby motorhome site, damaging two static homes, one caravan, and several sheds. Seven fire engines and a bulk water carrier attended, with crews using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported, and the fire is believed to have started accidentally when the bonfire ignited dry grass. The incident occurred as firefighters also battled a major wildfire on the Isle of Grain.

Highlands End Holiday Park near Eype in Dorset has been included in Campsites.co.uk's list of 122 outstanding family campsites in the UK for 2026. It is one of 47 sites highlighted for excellence. The park offers an indoor heated pool, an 18-hole FootGolf course, an adventure playground, indoor soft play, and alpacas. It has a 4.82/5 rating, with 98% of visitors recommending it.

Nationwide Lodges Ltd has applied for a premises license for Adgestone Caravan and Camping Site in Sandown. If approved, the license would allow plays from 8am to 11pm, films from 5pm to 11pm, live music from noon to midnight, and recorded music from 8am to midnight. Alcohol sales would be permitted from 8am to 11pm. The application was made under the Licensing Act 2003. Residents have until August 24 to submit written objections or comments to the council's licensing section. Making false statements in connection with the application carries a maximum fine of £5,000.

Planning officers are recommending approval for a retrospective application to keep two static caravans for a single traveller family at Chestnut Paddocks off Titchfield Road. The application goes before Fareham Borough Council's planning committee on August 12. Despite 118 objections from 100 households, officials say the use would not harm the landscape, and ecologists and highways have raised no objections.

Kelling Heath Holiday Park in Norfolk, UK, will host its second Wild Sky Weekend from September 25 to 27. The event includes guided stargazing, bat walks, a glow-in-the-dark woodland trail, and other nature activities. The park is a two-star dark sky discovery site. Most activities are free for guests staying at the park, with some possibly carrying a small charge.
