Mid Wales has claimed the title of best region in the UK for camping, glamping, and caravan sites, achieving the highest average score of 9.5 out of 10 in the Pitchup.com Review Awards 2025. Two local sites, Nyth Robin (9.9) and Meadow Springs (9.8), received special recognition. The ranking is based on nearly 200,000 customer reviews.
In parallel, Denbighshire County Council has announced the 'Denbighshire Motorhome Aire' project, creating six short-stay motorhome and campervan stops on existing public car parks, including two in Rhyl. The aim is to reduce unauthorised overnight stays on streets, verges, and car parks. Facilities will include waste disposal and fresh water, with a maximum stay of two nights. The project is funded by the Welsh Brilliant Basics programme and the UK Government's Pride in Place Impact Fund. Local residents have expressed concerns over the potential loss of green space on Rhyl promenade.
Meanwhile, Gwynedd councillors have warned that the introduction of a visitor levy in Wales could lead to a rise in wild camping on beaches and scenic spots. The law, signed in September, allows local authorities to charge for overnight stays. The levy could generate between £2.4 million and £12 million, but concerns remain over revenue collection, enforcement, and the need for improved infrastructure.
