Mid Wales tops camping rankings
Mid Wales achieved the highest average score of 9.5 out of 10 in the Pitchup.com Review Awards 2025, based on nearly 200,000 customer reviews. Two local sites, Nyth Robin (9.9) and Meadow Springs (9.8), received special recognition.
Denbighshire's motorhome aire project
Denbighshire County Council announced the 'Denbighshire Motorhome Aire' project — six short-stay stops for motorhomes and campervans. The aim is to reduce illegal overnight parking on streets, verges, and car parks. Stops will be set up on existing public car parks, including two in Rhyl. Basic facilities include waste disposal and fresh water. Maximum stay is two nights. The project is funded by the Welsh Brilliant Basics programme and the UK Government's Pride in Place Impact Fund. Some local residents have expressed dissatisfaction over the potential loss of green space on Rhyl promenade.
Visitor levy concerns
Gwynedd councillors warned that the introduction of a visitor levy in Wales could increase wild camping on beaches and scenic spots. The law, signed in September, allows local authorities to charge for overnight stays. The levy could raise between £2.4 million and £12 million. Key issues include uncontrolled campervan parking, lack of council powers to evict, and the need for clear allocation of funds for tourism infrastructure.
