In 2025, total sales of self-propelled motorhomes in China surpassed 20,000 units for the first time. Sales of camper vans for short trips rose 85.61% year-on-year, while sales of new energy motorhomes for long-distance travel increased 229%. In the first half of 2025, more than 12,000 self-propelled motorhomes were registered, up 32.6% year-on-year. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, there are over 3,100 motorhome campsites nationwide. In June 2025, the Ministry of Commerce and eight other departments issued a notice supporting the development of the motorhome and camping industry.

MONTX unveiled the V10 concept camper at Auto China under the label “Adaptive Mobile Hub.” The cabin features three interior zones that can shift between a mobile office, social space, and sleeping area. A steer-by-wire system allows the steering wheel to slide across the dash, switching between left- and right-hand drive or retracting when parked. A four-part tailgate opens into an outdoor platform, viewing window, and overhead canopy. Onboard systems are designed to handle water, power, and climate without hookups. Rongcheng, a county-level city in Shandong Province, has become China's largest RV manufacturing and export base within 15 years. In the first half of 2026, the city's RV exports reached 1.06 billion yuan, up 21% year on year, accounting for over 55% of China's total RV exports and 87.6% of Shandong Province's. The local industry produces motorhomes, travel trailers, camping trailers, and tent campers, representing about 30% of China's total output. About 40% of components are sourced locally, and customs clearance times have been cut by more than 80% through an appointment-based inspection system.

Geely Remote has launched the X-VAN camper based on its electric Super VAN. The price is 269,900 yuan. Dimensions are 5018/1980/2140 mm with a wheelbase of 3100 mm. The interior features a 2+2+2 layout, front and second-row seats rotate 180 degrees, and the right side has a sliding door with no B-pillar. A pop-up roof provides a double bed. Power comes from a front-mounted single motor producing 170 kW, paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery from Gotion High-tech. CLTC range is 460 km. A 3.3 kW mobile power station function is also included.

A Sina News post details a five-day camper van trip with two children. The author divided luggage into four categories: bedding, clothing and shoes, kitchen items, and small items. While driving, the mattress, sheets, and quilt are placed in the rear compartment, and small items on the front passenger seat; when parked, three bags of clothing go under the rear seat, while a storage box and toilet tent are placed on the front passenger seat. Kitchenware and food are stored in the front trunk. The post stresses that children must sit in the back seat with seat belts fastened and that sleeping in the back while driving is prohibited.

Average temperatures around 19 C attract retirees, families and long-term travelers seeking relief from the heat. Daily parking fees range from 10 to 68 yuan depending on space and utilities. Site manager Chen Yan estimates about 42% stay three to four months, while only 10% stay less than a month. During peak season from May to September, the campground holds communal banquets, bonfire parties and performances.
