On Saturday afternoon, a motorhome of a German tourist caught fire on the Tauern motorway (A10) in the state of Salzburg. The three occupants — a 39-year-old man from Thuringia and his two children — managed to leave the vehicle before it was completely burned out.
The fire started with a loud bang in the engine compartment, after which the vehicle lost power and began to smoke. The driver stopped on the hard shoulder, and everyone got out. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and removed two empty gas cylinders. Due to heavy smoke, the motorway was closed in both directions; traffic was restored by 8:45 pm, causing long traffic jams.
