Fire on A3 near Bischbrunn
On July 7, 2026, a motorhome caught fire on the A3 near Bischbrunn (Main-Spessart). The 77-year-old driver stopped on the hard shoulder and left the vehicle independently, sustaining injuries. He was taken to hospital. Traffic was temporarily closed in both directions; by 12:00 one lane towards Frankfurt was opened, by 12:30 one lane towards Nuremberg. The motorhome was completely burnt out. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Fire on A8 near Irschenberg
On June 21, 2026, a motorhome belonging to a Swedish couple returning from holiday burnt out completely on the A8 near Irschenberg (Miesbach district). The 60-year-old driver noticed smoke from the engine compartment and pulled onto the hard shoulder. Attempts to extinguish the fire with water and a fire extinguisher failed. No one was injured. Damage is estimated at 80,000 euros, suspected cause is a technical defect. Traffic towards Munich was closed for 1.5–2 hours, causing a multi-kilometre traffic jam.
Fire on A6 near Neudettelsau
On May 29, 2026, a motorhome burnt out completely on the A6 near Neudettelsau. The driver suffered minor burns from a flash when trying to retrieve a warning triangle. The passenger was unhurt. Traffic was closed for several hours.
