Cities are grouped into regions, and a region's score is the median of its cities so dense clusters don't outweigh sparse ones. Final score = 0.65 × “best areas” (80th percentile of regions) + 0.35 × “typical conditions” (median of regions), so one warm city can't push the whole country to 100. Each city's score blends warmth (feels-like), sun, rain and wind, adjusted for night temperature and, on the coast, the sea. Data: Open-Meteo, refreshed several times a day.

A new camping amendment in Burgenland introduces micro-camping with up to five pitches or ten people, tied to an agricultural or hospitality business, allows up to 20 motorhome pitches under a simplified notification procedure, and permits existing campsites to allocate up to 35% of pitch area to glamping and mobile homes. The draft law is under review and is set to take effect on 1 January 2027. Michaela Heeger-Gmeiner of Gmeiner tourism businesses, which operates campsites in Rust and Purbach, said the document is still only a draft and noted a decline in bookings in August due to heat. René Lentsch, managing director of Podersdorf Tourismus, welcomed the amendment, citing increased competition and an approximately 3.5% year-on-year drop in visitors in August.

On 2 and 3 October, Robert Harrer Reisemobile & Wohnwagencenter in Auen will host a camper show to mark the company's 40th anniversary. On the first day, a joint hike with Birgit and Robert Harrer starts at 11:00, followed from 18:00 by a programme for guests with their own camping vehicles and an evening gathering with live music. On the second day, a visit to the Almenland cheese tunnel with shuttle service begins at 10:00, a traditional costume fashion show takes place at 18:00, and the Edlseer perform at 20:00 in the festival tent. Pitches are available for guests with camping vehicles upon prior registration.
Running a typical van-based motorhome with 103 kW and 3.5 tonnes in Austria costs around 2,850 euros per year (about 237 euros per month), excluding fuel and campsite fees. This includes tax, insurance, annual vignette, inspection, maintenance and parking. Key rules: N-class motorhomes are taxed only on engine power (capped at 912 euros per year), the 2026 annual vignette costs 106.80 euros, and since 1 December 2023 tolls are based on technically permissible mass rather than registered weight. A digital vignette bought online only becomes valid on the 18th day after purchase.

Caravan Salon Austria 2026 will take place in Wels from 14 to 18 October. Around 280 exhibitors are expected, with new halls 22 and 19, plus Camping Summit and Camping Star.
MeinBezirk.at published a list of ten campsites in Lower Austria suitable for tent, motorhome, caravan or rental accommodation. The selection includes Camping Waldviertel Groß Gerungs, Aktiv Camp Purgstall, Pielachtal Camping Hofstetten, Donau Camping Marbach, Donaucamping Emmersdorf, Terrassen Camping Traisen, Kohlhofmühl Camping Neusiedl im Piestingtal, Veltlinerlandcamping Poysdorf, Ötscherland Campingplatz Lunz am See and Camping Lichtenfels am Stausee Ottenstein. The sites are located in different landscapes, from the Waldviertel and the Danube to the Weinviertel and Mostviertel; they range from small 20-pitch sites to facilities with pools, beaches and family infrastructure.
Camping Sonnenland Lutzmannsburg ranked 9th in the camping.info ranking of European campsites for the 2026 season. The ranking is based on page views from January to September 2026, analysing more than 23,000 campsites in 44 countries. It is the only campsite from Burgenland in the top 10 and one of five Austrian sites in the top ten. Falkensteiner Camping Grubhof in Salzburg took first place. Germany leads the top 100 with 47 campsites, followed by Austria with 23 and Italy with 18.
