On July 25, 2026, a motorhome burned out completely on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) near Zederhaus (Lungau). The 39-year-old German driver (from Thuringia) heard a loud bang from the engine compartment, stopped on the hard shoulder, and managed to evacuate himself and his two children. No one was injured.
The Zederhaus fire brigade, called at around 16:45, found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames and extinguished it using a watering installation, high-pressure hose, and foam equipment. Two gas cylinders were removed from the burning motorhome; they turned out to be empty. The operation ended around 19:00.
Due to heavy smoke, the motorway was closed in both directions from 16:45 to 17:15, then traffic continued on one lane. Cleanup lasted until 20:45, causing traffic jams and a blockage before the Katschberg tunnel towards Salzburg. The cause of the fire is still being determined.
