The island council of Fuerteventura is considering an annual quota or seasonal limits on motorhomes and camper vans belonging to non-residents, along with a prior authorisation stating entry and exit dates. The trigger was overcrowding at La Concha beach in August. The council will request technical and legal reports and says it will work in parallel on creating dedicated areas for such vehicles. The Canary Islands government has nearly completed a regional decree banning wild camping for tourism but allowing overnight stays in properly parked vehicles; designated areas must offer stays of up to 72 hours and provide drinking water, waste disposal and electricity where there are 20 or more spaces.
