Infrastructure for motorhomes is being actively developed in several regions of Germany and Switzerland. In Porta Westfalica (North Rhine-Westphalia), a new parking area is being considered in the Barkhausen district, near the Wesertreff. The project includes a rest area and repair of the ship landing stage. The city will initially fund the project, with possible state subsidies. Implementation may start no earlier than 2027.
In Gemen (North Rhine-Westphalia), ten new motorhome parking spaces are planned at the Kalverkamp site, near the city center. Opening is expected in 2026. Since the area is in the flood zone of the Bocholter Aa river, a flood warning system will be installed.
In Hamminkeln (North Rhine-Westphalia), a parking lot at Lake Weikensee is being considered to attract tourists. The project is controversial and is based on the successful experience of the neighboring city of Wesel.
In Moosham (Berchtesgadener Land, Switzerland), the Schauer family plans to expand their motorhome parking from 3 to 15 spaces. They have offered farm holidays since 1970, and demand for motorhome spaces has increased after the COVID-19 pandemic. The project has caused disagreements in the city council.
