The Cabildo de Tenerife is investing €3.5 million to convert the former Malpaso waste transfer station in the municipality of Arona into a logistics centre. The project includes a new clean point, equipment for crushing bulky waste, and a service area for motorhomes where users can empty grey and black water and refill drinking water.
In 2025, the station handled 161,925 tonnes of waste, representing 34.73% of the total processed at all transfer stations on the island. The new equipment is expected to reduce garbage truck trips by 60–80%, avoiding between 746 and 995 journeys per year. Similar service areas are planned for other waste reception points on the island.
