A Japanese woman who neither owns a car nor holds a driving licence wanted to try sleeping in a vehicle. Her sister, a photographer with experience of overnight stays in cars, agreed to help. They travelled to Kusatsu in Shiga Prefecture to photograph lotus flowers at a botanical garden that opens at 7 a.m. on July weekends. They planned to stay overnight at the Motenasu Kusatsu service area using an ordinary passenger car. As service areas are intended for short rest stops, they limited their stay and intended to leave at dawn. In the end, excitement and an argument prevented them from sleeping at all.
