According to a study by the German institute Ifeu, a night in a hotel produces an average of 22.1 kg of CO₂ equivalent per person, while a night in a camper at a stopover area emits 1.8 kg, roughly ten times less. The analysis also found that a camper can produce about 70% of the CO₂ emissions associated with a car-and-hotel holiday, where accommodation accounts for 42% of CO₂ emissions and 46% of fossil fuel consumption. According to PINCamp data, camping tourists in Europe can save an average of about 29% on the daily pitch fee by travelling outside the most expensive periods.
