A camper van caught fire at a Conad filling station on Via dell'Agricoltura in Campiglia Marittima, in the Venturina Terme area, on the morning of Monday 19 October. The flames, visible from hundreds of metres away, completely engulfed the vehicle and also reached part of the station, including its roof. The station was evacuated as a precaution.
Two fire crews from Livorno, Piombino detachment, attended: one with a tanker pump and one with a water tanker. They put out the fire, though not without some difficulty. The owners of the camper van, two people according to one report, were taken to the emergency department for checks.
Carabinieri, municipal police and 118 medical staff also attended. The local council said the situation was under control. Via della Monaca, which had been closed to allow the operation to proceed safely, has reopened. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
