The ACV motoring club has published recommendations for EV owners planning to tow a caravan. Switching from a combustion-engine car to an electric vehicle raises new questions: range with a trailer, permissible weights, and suitable charging stations.
Key criteria for choosing an EV include matching towing capacity, hitch load, and payload reserve. Permissible trailer mass is typically 750–2000 kg. Range with a large caravan can drop by half, requiring more frequent charging stops and speed adjustments.
Proper calculation of hitch and axle loads is also important, as is compliance with driving licence rules (categories B, B96, BE). Charging stations not designed for vehicle-trailer combinations may pose difficulties.
