Noseweight

Towing United Kingdom Europe

Nose weight, tongue weight, vertical ball load, hitch load, drawbar load

Noseweight is the downward force exerted by a caravan or trailer's coupling on the tow ball of the towing vehicle, measured in kilograms. Correct noseweight is essential for safe, stable towing.

The recommended noseweight is 5–7% of the trailer's laden weight, within the limits in both the tow vehicle and caravan handbooks. Too little causes snaking; too much causes steering and braking problems.
