Free check for motorhomes

On the A13 motorway in Austria, at the Luegbrücke bridge, temporary rules ban motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes from the right lane. Violators face a €90 fine and possible re-routing with extra toll payment.

On May 10, a camper van crashed into a concrete barrier on the A9 near Spital am Pyhrn. Four Croatian men (ages 21–41) were seriously injured. Traffic was restricted until 4:45 PM, with a full 45-minute closure for a rescue helicopter landing.

The State Traffic Department of Vorarlberg (Austria) will hold a free weighing event for motorhomes and caravans on May 16, 2026, at the Nüziders control station (A14). Overloading is common due to passengers, water, e-bikes, and luggage, reducing stability and increasing braking distance. Overloads detected during the event will not be penalized; the aim is prevention and information.

On June 27, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00, the popular toll-free Fernpass route (B179) in Tyrol will be completely closed due to registered demonstrations. The Brenner motorway will also be fully closed on the same day. The closure coincides with the start of summer holidays in several German states, causing massive traffic jams. Motorhome drivers are advised to use toll motorways A14 or A12 as detours, while the Zirler Berg route (B177) is banned for trailers and heavy motorhomes due to a 16% gradient.

On May 16, 2026, a free weighing event for motorhomes and caravans will take place at the Nüziders traffic control point (A14, towards Innsbruck). The campaign is organized by the traffic police together with ÖAMTC and ASFINAG. Overloading often goes unnoticed but affects vehicle stability and braking distance. Overweight vehicles will not be penalized during the event, with focus on prevention.
