According to the Austrian Camping Club (ÖCC) and Statistik Austria, around 2.9 million overnight stays were registered at Austrian campsites and motorhome parking areas in the first half of 2026, 3.6% below the record level of the previous year.
May was particularly strong with 789,720 overnight stays, up 37.5% from May 2025. April and June showed declines due to weather and the timing of holidays and school vacations. February, however, rose 27.4% year-on-year.
Among the federal states, Tyrol leads with 916,919 overnight stays, followed by Carinthia (654,838) and Salzburg (309,036). The president of the Austrian Camping Club, Thomas Mellmauer, notes that camping is becoming a year-round form of vacation.
