What to do in your first hour on a new campsite
Original source: CaravanTimes

CaravanTimes published a step-by-step arrival routine for motorhomes and caravans on 23 October 2026. It advises walking the pitch before moving the vehicle to check for soft ground, slopes, low branches and the position of the electric hook-up. The vehicle should then be positioned so the door, awning and hook-up line up, levelled side to side and front to back, with the handbrake applied and chocks used where needed; a caravan should be unhitched only once level and secure. The electric cable should be uncoiled fully and plugged in with the bollard switched off, then fresh water topped up and gas turned on as required. Before unpacking, campers should locate toilets, waste points, water taps and reception, and check quiet hours and site rules.
