Marcus Clarke, founder of The Prepared Household, has outlined common gear mistakes made by first-time caravan and motorhome tourers. According to Clarke, one of the biggest errors is buying gear because it looks impressive rather than because it suits the trip; the right equipment depends on destination, season and expected conditions. He advises prioritising a reliable awning, proper levelling equipment and weather-appropriate bedding over extras. Clarke also notes that underestimating overnight temperature drops, getting the packing balance wrong and preparing for only one type of weather can spoil a first trip.
