The mayor of O Vicedo (Lugo, Galicia), Jesús Novo, has called for regional regulation of motorhome and camper parking on the coast, saying local authorities cannot cope with the influx of tourists. Every summer, dozens of vehicles park on Arealonga beach and other beaches in A Mariña, leading to pollution, noise and conflicts with residents.
The situation repeats every weekend in July and August, with dozens of vans stopping overnight without permission. Galicia lacks adequate parking facilities and the regulatory framework is fragmented, making the problem hard to solve at the municipal level. Novo stressed: "We need regulation beyond the municipality."
