In Brief

Instruction PROT 2026/04 explains ITV intervals for motorhomes and campers, speed limits and parking rules. DEKRA ITV clarifies key aspects.

MOT (ITV)

Intervals depend on homologation category:

  • M1 (passenger cars and motorhomes up to 8 seats): first inspection after 4 years, then every 2 years until 10 years, then annually.
  • N1 (vans and campers with a maximum mass up to 3500 kg): first inspection after 2 years, then every 2 years until 6 years, annually from 6 to 10 years, and every 6 months after 10 years.

Speed limits

  • Up to 3500 kg: 120 km/h on motorways, 90 km/h on regular roads.
  • Over 3500 kg: 90 km/h and 80 km/h respectively.

Parking

Parking a motorhome or camper is not considered camping if no external space is occupied. People inside a parked motorhome do not constitute camping, but using external elements such as awnings or stabilisers changes the situation.
