Loraine and Rob Deering, former Royal Air Force members, invested £126,000 in renovating their home in Dundee, Scotland, but RPM Group Scotland went bankrupt, leaving the project unfinished. Since March 2025, the couple has been living in a caravan and rented accommodations, as the house was deemed uninhabitable due to missing heating, incomplete kitchen and bathroom. Experts estimate less than half of the contracted work was completed, despite the couple paying about 90% of the agreed amount. The company claims additional client requests caused financial difficulties.

Family loses £65,000 on caravan sale in Lincolnshire

A family from Ruddington bought a caravan for £87,000 at Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire in July 2024. When they tried to sell it back to park operator Away Resorts in January 2026, they were offered £22,000 — the amount still owed on finance. A private sale would have incurred additional costs of around £7,000 for release fees and an electricity bill, while site fees of £500 per month continued throughout the process.

Council to increase caravan fees

BCP Council will raise licence fees for owners of caravan sites in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from 1 October. The increase applies to 21 residential sites, grouped into five bands based on the number of mobile homes. For the smallest sites (up to 10 homes), annual charges rise from £192 to £200; for the largest (up to 142 homes), from £383 to £398. Fees for licence transfers and operator assessments will also increase. The council noted there is little regulation to prevent costs being passed on to residents.
