From July 2026, the EU’s General Safety Regulation II mandates a set of driver-assistance systems for all new vehicles, including motorhomes. Depending on weight and class, mandatory equipment includes intelligent speed assist, driver drowsiness detection, alcohol interlock preparation, reversing camera, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking and tyre pressure monitoring. Industry estimates put the price increase for a new motorhome at €1,000–€3,000. Additionally, if a van is converted and first registered as a motorhome after 7 July, it is treated as a new vehicle and must also comply with the new rules.
