Wales tourism tax will hit affordable caravan holidays hardest

A campaign for designated stopover areas warns that bans on overnight parking for motorhomes and campervans in popular areas are deterring tourists. North Yorkshire authorities have made permanent a trial ban on parking along part of the coast from 11pm to 7am, introduced in 2024 following complaints about anti-social behaviour. Campaigners call for more official 'aires' instead of outright restrictions.

A collision between a car and a caravan has closed the A71 road in both directions. The incident occurred this afternoon near East Calder, with emergency crews at the scene. Photos show a Mini Cooper crashed into a large caravan with debris scattered across the road.

North Yorkshire Council has implemented a permanent ban on overnight parking for motorhomes and campervans in coastal areas of Scarborough and Whitby from May. The ban, supported by 60% of local residents, follows complaints about anti-social behaviour including campfires and litter. Approximately two-thirds of the 3,000 responses received were from motorhome owners, with most opposing the restrictions.

At least ten caravans and motorhomes have pitched up in Preston Park, Brighton, on April 3. Similar incidents occurred previously, including in August 2023 when approximately 12 caravans arrived at the park.

British converter Sussex Campervans has unveiled a camper van based on the Kia PV5 electric van. The vehicle offers a WLTP range of 416 km and features a pop-up roof for additional sleeping space. The estimated starting price is around €80,000.

The Sandringham Club Campsite on the royal estate in Norfolk has reopened following a major redevelopment.
