One of Wales' oldest campsites, Dan Yr Ogof in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, will switch to adults-only from 14 September. The reason is the management's refusal to collect the proposed visitor levy from babies and small children.
The levy, set at £1.30 per person per night (with VAT £1.56), was introduced by the previous Welsh government. Owner Ashford Price said staff are uncomfortable charging for infants who 'can hardly be considered tourists' and that the tax would hit large families. Powys council has not yet decided whether to implement the levy. The site is already taking bookings for 2027 and informing customers of its decision.
