Tasmania's parliament has passed the Residential Parks Act 2026, introducing protections for long-term residents of caravan and residential parks. Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Protection Guy Barnett said the law sets out clear rights and responsibilities for residents and operators, transparent eviction procedures, requirements for safe living conditions, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
Amendments by the Greens require bonds to be lodged with the Rental Deposit Authority and allow residents to appeal rule changes and evictions to TasCAT. Previously, Tasmania was the only state without such protections. The law also reflects the experience of Beauty Point residents who long campaigned for stronger guarantees for such communities.
