From 1 January 2026, motor vehicle tax for motorhomes in the Netherlands doubled, causing the market to collapse. Owners are increasingly using temporary suspension (schorsing) with the RDW to avoid paying tax during winter. The one-off suspension fee is €88.05 for vehicles under 15 years old and €29.10 for older ones. According to AutoZoWeg.nl, a 2,600 kg motorhome can save €724 over five months, while heavier models can save up to €875. In the first quarter of 2026, 17,318 motorhomes were suspended, compared with 7,593 a year earlier; by 1 January, 52% of all motorhomes were suspended.
