A caravan on a field at the Pleinpaed in Twijzelerheide was completely destroyed by fire in the night from Saturday to Sunday. The fire was discovered at around 01.40, and firefighters from De Westereen rushed to the scene, along with police. By the time they arrived, the caravan was already fully ablaze.
Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control but could not save the caravan. Nobody was injured. According to a bystander, the fire load was considerable, and he suspects that car tyres and other waste were also burning next to the caravan.
Police are treating the fire as arson. It is not known who is responsible. It is not the first time: a few weeks ago a caravan also caught fire at the same spot.
