A gas explosion in a caravan at a campsite near Jachthaven de Domp in Sneek on Sunday evening injured one person. The man was treated at the scene and taken to hospital. The caravan was badly damaged.
People staying in neighbouring caravans heard a huge bang at around 22:20. Emergency services were called out at 22:24. Three ambulances, the fire service, the police and a mobile medical team with a trauma helicopter attended. Firefighters put out the burning remains and made the area safe. The fire service said a gas explosion had taken place and that the cause was still under investigation.
A couple from Aldwâld who were staying a few metres away said the explosion happened when the man wanted to make a cup of tea. The woman, who works in healthcare, went to the man at once, led him to the toilets and cooled him with water. She said he was conscious and responsive but in a lot of pain. The caravan was left badly distorted, with little of it intact.
