Suspending a camper for winter: one afternoon on the street can still cost a year's road tax
Original source: Autobahn

From 1 January 2026, camper owners in the Netherlands pay half the regular motor vehicle tax instead of a quarter. A one-year suspension costs €88.05 for campers up to 15 years old and €29.10 for older ones. However, a suspended camper may not be parked on a public road, even briefly for unloading. Violations can lead to a tax assessment covering four consecutive three-month periods and a fine of 50% of the unpaid tax, with a minimum of €50 and a maximum of €6,709.
