Volkswagen has introduced the next-generation California camper van, based on the T7 Multivan, for the European market. First shown as a concept at the 2023 Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, the model is available with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The PHEV version delivers a combined 241 hp and can tow up to 2,000 kg, with an electric range of 40 km. Dimensions have grown: length 5,173 mm (+269 mm), width 1,941 mm (+37 mm). The base Beach trim seats six and includes a pop-up tent for two. Higher trims like Beach Tour add swivel front seats and touchscreen control of camping functions. The Beach Camper and Coast trims include a slide-out kitchen with gas burner, sink, and fridge. Prices are unannounced; pre-orders start in June, with deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
