Volkswagen unveils electric camper van ID. California Cruise

The Caravan Salon 2026 opened in Düsseldorf on August 28 and runs until September 6, featuring around 800 exhibitors across 250,000 square meters. Highlights include the fully electric Volkswagen ID. California Cruise based on the ID. Buzz, updated Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo and Marco Polo Horizon, and the first electric Ford Transit Custom Nugget by Wavecamper. The European camper market is growing: registrations rose 10% in the first four months of 2026 to 64,406 units, with over 6.5 million campers and caravans in circulation.

Yucon has unveiled an updated lineup of campers for the 2027 model year. All models based on Renault, Mercedes, and Fiat chassis receive a new interior design and additional equipment. The special Fever edition for Fiat Ducato-based versions includes an automatic transmission, alloy wheels, two solar panels, a 200 Ah lithium battery, a 90-liter compressor refrigerator, a pop-up roof, an awning, and a bike rack. The Yucon 60 B Fever is priced from €66,900.

The Ostseecamping Familie Heide campsite in Kleinwaabs has been ranked sixth in the PiNCAMP Most Wanted 2026 ranking. It is located about 42 km from Kiel, directly on the Baltic Sea coast. The ranking is based on page views by German users between January 1 and July 31, and only campsites with at least four reviews and a rating of at least 7 out of 10 were considered. The site features a 500-meter natural beach, an indoor pool, a wellness area with saunas, playgrounds, and various sports facilities. Prices in high season start at 53 euros per night for a family and 44.50 euros for a couple, while in low season they start at 36.50 and 31.50 euros respectively.

On Wednesday evening, a car and a motorhome collided on the A9 near Leipzig. The 63-year-old driver of the motorhome, traveling towards Berlin in the middle lane, attempted to change to the left lane, apparently failing to notice an approaching Audi. The Audi's driver, 46, could not brake in time and hit the rear of the motorhome, sustaining serious injuries. The motorhome driver and his 64-year-old female passenger were slightly injured. All three were taken to hospitals in Leipzig. The highway towards Berlin was fully closed for about 20 minutes, then traffic was guided past the scene. Firefighters were also on site to bind operating fluids and clean the road. The amount of property damage is not yet known.

Etrusco has announced several new models for the Caravan Salon 2026. These include the narrow partially integrated V 6.8 SF and V 6.8 SCF with a drop-down bed in the front, and the CV 640 PB+ with a Skyview roof and electric drop-down bed. Etrusco received the PLUS X AWARD 'High Customer Satisfaction 2026/2027' based on a survey of over 16,000 consumers. The interior design has been awarded the German Design Award 2026 and the iF Design Award 2026. Prices for the T-Base series start at 61,499 euros.
